GABI NAZARENO (b.1991. Gabriela Isobelle Niña Nazareno Vaño) is a visual artist and printmaker from Bohol. She finished her studies in Mass Communication in the University of the Philippines Cebu (2011), before completing a BFA in Studio Arts (Painting), from the University of the Philippines in Diliman (2017), where she was awarded the Dominador Castañeda Award for Outstanding Thesis. She was a recipient of the President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Award for Outstanding Achievement in Culture and Arts in 2007; a Finalist of the 48th National Shell Students Art Competition (Oil/Acrylic Category) in 2015; and a Semi-finalist of the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence Award (2016).
She has been actively participating in various exhibitions within the country and abroad, since graduating in 2017. Among her notable group exhibitions are the Ugpaanan at Stadshal, Ghent, Belgium in 2022; Limbag Kamay Print Exchange at Fundacion Sanso, Manila in 2022; Consumatum Est at NCCA Gallery in Manila 2021-2022; The Hooman Experience at Vinyl on Vinyl, Makati in 2021; Living Earth: Philippine Contemporary Art, Pinto: International at the Musica Arte Cultura, Milan in 2019; Casting Stones Into Still Water at Mind Set Art Center, in Taipei in 2018; Close Quarters at Vinyl on Vinyl, Makati in 2018; Attachments at Tin-aw Art Gallery, Makati in 2017; Green Go Home at the UP Vargas Museum, Quezon City in 2017.
She represented Bohol for the Kwentong Pilipino Artist Exchange in Düsseldorf, Germany in 2022; and the all-women featured exhibition, “By No Means”, at the Visayas Art Fair in November 2021; VIVA Excon's curated exhibition “Kalibutan: The World in Mind”, which ran from September - December 2021, and was remounted at the Art Fair Philippines in 2022.
Her first solo exhibition, “Where Are We?”, opened at the National Commission for Culture and Arts Gallery, Manila in 2020. While her second solo exhibition, “Moments of Quietude”, was shown at Gravity Art Space, Manila in 2022.
She is currently part of the College of Communication, Art and Design Faculty of the University of the Philippines Cebu, where she teaches Philippine Arts & Culture, Printmaking, and Techniques (Drawing).
