GABI NAZARENO
is a visual artist and printmaker from Bohol, currently based in Cebu. She finished her studies in Mass Communication in the University of the Philippines Cebu (2011), before completing a BFA in Studio Arts (Painting), from the University of the Philippines in Diliman (2017), where she was awarded the Dominador Castañeda Award for Outstanding Thesis. She was also a recipient of the President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Award for Outstanding Achievement in Culture and Arts in 2007.
Nazareno's portfolio includes drawings, paintings, prints and videos that at times incorporate a participatory or performative aspect. Her recent works are anatomically-inspired prints that marry traditional relief printmaking with laser-cut technology. Her art revolves on the complexities and the politics of the mind and body, memory and place.
She has been actively showing her works in notable galleries in the Philippines, and has mounted two solo exhibitions in Metro Manila. Her work has also been exhibited abroad – specifically in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and Taiwan.
At present, she is part of the College of Communication, Art and Design Faculty of the University of the Philippines Cebu, where she teaches Philippine Arts & Culture, Printmaking, and Visual Perception.
